The charity in question, the Pegasus Children's Trust, was set up by Judy Westwater, one of the members of the Gala Bingo on the Englishgate Plaza, Carlisle, reports the Cumberland News.
The money raised from the bingo session will go towards supporting and improving the lives of street children in South Africa, where Judy herself spent some of her childhood.
Assistant manager at the bingo club, Marc Goodwin, told the newspaper: "Gala and its members are delighted to be supporting Judy. The work the charity does is very important."
Seven day centres have now been established by Judy in South Africa and hopefully the money raised from Gala can make a valuable contribution to these centres.
