PENSIONER BEATS BULLDOZERS TO BINGO JACKPOT
03/02/2006

A pensioner who won an enormous £200,000 at his local bingo hall could well be the last person to scoop such a mighty jackpot at the venue.

The 76-year-old former maintenance engineer was playing at the Mecca Palais bingo hall in Fountainbridge when he hit the big time on the National Bingo Game, the Scotsman reports.

But if the lucky Scot, who revealed that he will take his other half on holiday to Hong Kong, thinks he can return to the bingo hall to try his luck once more, he will have to think again.

Plans are afoot for the Mecca Palais to be demolished, to be replaced by a new and more modern leisure facility at the Fountainpark Leisure Complex.

While this means bingo players will not have to go without, many fans of the old venue are still trying to stop the demolition from going ahead.
