BINGO PLAYERS ESCAPE CLUB BLAZE
06/04/2006

A fire at the Llangefni Football Club social club, site of a regular weekly session for some players in north Wales, began in an electrical cupboard and destroyed the building, according to the Daily Post.

Football club chairman Gwynfor Parry declared the fire marked a "sad day", but was adamant that the social club would be rebuilt as it is a vital source of income for Llangefni-which lacks the community size to attract Gala or Mecca.

The fire was put out by the actions of 20 firefighters from surrounding areas, who, the Daily Post reports, managed to save nearby changing rooms.

They also stopped the fire spreading to a nearby generator holding 3,500 litres of diesel and 2,000 litres of heating oil, which could have caused a massive explosion.

According to the newspaper, the two-dozen bingo players escaped the blaze unharmed.
