Residents of Fountainbridge who use the Mecca bingo hall to enjoy their favourite pastime are worried that the replacement of the now-standing bingo hall with a modern "leisure" development could see their bingo nights end, the Scotsman reports.
"This application at the moment looks like it is a Trojan horse proposal to allow the creation of another nightclub in Fountainbridge," said Tollcross councillor Lorna Shiels, according to the newspaper.
The bingo hall operators, Rank Group, have failed to rule out the possibility that the new building will be a nightclub, but other potential uses include a casino or a cinema to rival the bingo lovers' hopes.
With the possibility of an end to their Mecca bingo hall activities, many fans of the game in Fountainbridge will be happy to know their experience could continue online.
