23/05/2006That is because a man in New Zealand is about to get a visit from his parents – who he hasn't seen for three years – following the bonanza his mother bagged at her last visit to the Mecca Bingo Hall in Reading.
According to the National Bingo Game Association, the 74-year-old, 40-year bingo veteran landed more than £50,000 when she won the national prize last week.
"When I called house, I thought I might be in with a chance for the regional prize but not the national, not with my luck," the winner said.
"There was a long half an hour wait for the results to come through, and I missed my train home because I waited to see if I had won. When they said I had got the lot, I was very shocked, to say the least."
However, despite the big win, the lucky lady knows where her priorities lie. As well as "looking after the family", she still works in a charity shop, giving something back following her brilliant win.
