Online bingo site, Think Bingo, recorded a 22% increase in playing since the tournament began on June 9th.
And during England games there was a 39% surge in players avoiding the football by playing online bingo.
Dylan Schlosberg, a spokesman for Think Bingo said: “The surge in playing has been down to women whose men who have been watching World Cup matches.
“We have discovered a whole new fan base. Thousands of women are swapping footballs for online bingo balls.
“In fact, during the fateful England versus Portugal match on Saturday, the weekly coverall prize was the biggest it has ever been in the history of Think Bingo.”
In sharp contrast, Scottish online bingo site, Bingo Scotland has seen no marked rise in playing during the tournament.
Ben Starr of Bingo Scotland says: “Playing levels have remained sustained during the World Cup, but no real increase has been recorded. I can only put this down to the fact that Scotland unfortunately didn’t make it over to Germany this year.”
