The 85-year-old from Rotherham was persuaded by her daughter to enjoy a game of bingo even though her brother had passed away the previous day, according to the National Bingo Game website.
"I wasn't going to play bingo that night, because I was too upset," the pensioner admitted.
"In the end, my daughter persuaded me to go as she thought it would take my mind off it.
When I won I couldn't believe it."
The win of more than £40,000 took place at the Gala Club in Aldwarke Lane, Rotherham and the woman believes that her brother helped her wonderful win.
Having never won more than £10 playing bingo, she now plans to spoil her family as well as treating herself to a new bed.
