OWNERS OPTIMISTIC OVER NEW BINGO HALL
30/08/2006

The Mecca bingo hall on Saucel Crescent cost £3 million to build and can cater for no fewer than 1,000 bingo players, the Glasgow Evening Times reports.

But the smoking ban in Scotland has forced many regular bingo players away from bingo halls north of the border.

With many opting for online bingo instead, several clubs in the area have shut down recently.

But Rank Group, owner of Mecca, believes that its new facility in Paisley will be able to stem this tide.

Pat Mitchinson, marketing director at Rank Group gaming division, told the paper: "We're extremely confident of the resilience of bingo, despite the ban, and are positive the Paisley bingo hall will prove popular with locals."
