But with more and more people turning to online bingo rather than the traditional offline version, there is a fear that needy causes could be missing out.
As a result, a new site has been set up which is committed to donating ten per cent or more of what members spend online to charity.
The site, which can be found at www.bingohelps.com, allows those who register to choose where their money goes, whether it be fighting world hunger or caring for alley cats in the UK.
Nick Roberts, one of Bingohelps.com's founders, explained: "Bingo has always gone together with charity. It would be very sad if the move to online bingo were to change this, and actually there is no reason for this to happen.
"If anything, the internet can make charitable giving more accessible to players. With our program there is absolutely no cost nor is any effort required. Just choosing to participate is enough."
