Since the introduction of the smoking ban in Scotland, the number of people attending bingo halls has fallen, dragging down revenues as a result, the Herald reports.
Of the 83 bingo clubs in Scotland, around half are independently owned and at great risk of going under, a fate that has befallen five already since March.
As a result, Sir Peter wants a £10 million tax relief to ease the pressure on the industry, which is exacerbated by the fact that bingo halls face both a 15 per cent bingo duty and the 17.5 per cent attributed to VAT.
"We are asking the Scottish Parliament to support us and to put pressure on Westminster to provide this fiscal relief," Sir Peter told the Herald.
"The situation is already pretty desperate, and we can't just stand by and do nothing while these clubs go under."
