MIRAGE LEISURE APPLIES FOR BINGO HALL LICENCE
23/10/2006

Despite having a previous application to operate a casino on the same site turned down by the council, Mirage Leisure believes it has a case to apply for a gaming licence.

The gaming company saw its original casino plans rejected following an outcry from local residents, who say they have not been asked for their input on the new scheme.

Mirage is understood to be awaiting a positive response from the Walsall Magistrates regarding the proposal before starting work on the site.

Speaking to gambling news provider ATEonline.com regarding the toned-down plans, Councillor Barbara Cassidy said that while a more family-friendly development would be preferable, "a bingo hall is probably not the worst thing we could have on this site".

The outcome of the application for planning permission is likely to be revealed in January, the website reported.
