They have recently announced that they will be launching on mobile phones, through a deal with a major network operator (details are currently under wraps). Now, despite the fact that all our phones claim to be able to do wonderful things in relation to connectivity, how many of us would rely on our phone for internet access, or communication beyond speaking and text, like email for example?
The development sounds exciting enough but the reality will probably have little impact. At the moment any games, like bingo, that rely on connecting to the internet through a mobile phone, will surely be slow, with uninspired graphics and I can think of few opportunities when the phone would be a preferred option. Maybe when waiting for a bus?? Also, if you consider online bingo, the advantages of multi-player games, where you are playing against other bingo players, over single player games where the odds are fixed, are considerable - so bingo on a mobile, where the games will surely have to be single player will be a regression in terms of bingo sophistication.
The other barrier to marrying mobile phone and soft games, like bingo, is that mobile penetration is greatest amongst children and teenagers. The average age for acquiring a first mobile phone is 8 years... It is the youth market that drives mobile phone trends and whilst the profile of the online bingo player is young, getting younger and certainly younger than land-based bingo players, it is not exactly teenaged...
So don't hold your breath waiting for bingo games on your mobile phone, stick to your computer where online bingo is fast, dynamic and looks good.
