BINGO HALLS WILT IN HOT SUMMER
08/11/2006

This marks a significant dip on the £1.4 million recorded during the same period of 2005, with chairman, Sir Aubrey Brocklebank, citing the hot summer as a key factor in the results, although trading "has normalised" since then.

Top Ten, which operates 44 bingo halls in the UK, also raised its concerns over the impending smoking ban in England and the impact it would have on bingo halls.

Sir Aubrey stated: "The company faces the challenge forced upon it by the impending smoking ban in England and Wales and is taking every possible step to be prepared for and to minimise its impact."

He added that it could take two or three years for the bingo business to recover from the influence of the smoking ban.
