The Islington Tribune reports that the politician visited an estate in Andover for three nights to get an insight into living conditions, but many local residents feel she didn't get a true picture of how the 'other half' live.
While investigating anti-social behaviour in the area, Ms Widdecombe found time to take in a game of bingo at the local community hall, yet still managed to attend a charity function elsewhere the previous evening.
A member of the tenants and residents association, who did not want to be identified, told the paper: "They say the Queen only smells fresh paint. Well, Ms Widdecombe only had a very superficial view of the estate."
In future, if Ms Widdecombe wants to satisfy her bingo craving, she could always leave the TV cameras behind and try her hand at online bingo instead.
