CINEMA TO PROVIDE BLOCKBUSTER BINGO
15/01/2007

The Byron Bingo Club, owned by Stylus Sports, occupies part of the same building as the cinema on the high street, and will take over the premises of the former picturehouse, which aired its final public screening in June 2005, website Hucknell Today reports.

Once the cinema complex is integrated into the existing gaming club, the new super-sized bingo venue will house all-day bingo competitions, manager Jane Bonsall has suggested.

The former cinema was one of a wave of deco developments across the UK in the golden age of silver-screen viewing in the mid-1930s, but has more recently been plagued by problems around licensing and health and safety.

In February 2005, cinema operators were chastised after it emerged the building had been operating without any fire alarm facility for the protection of customers.
