MECCA MAKES MOVE FOR SMOKING SHELTER
23/01/2007

Bingo bosses plan to construct the shelter, similar to one that could be found at a bus stop, to alleviate some of the problems the July smoking ban will have on business, The Press newspaper reports.

Dan Waugh, director of investor relations at Mecca Bingo Online, explained to the paper: "The reason we've applied for this is that there is a smoking ban coming into effect in July and we want to make sure our customers who smoke are able to enjoy their bingo in comfort."

Councillors have been invited to discuss the application, which will be located at the front of the bingo building and measure 25 square metres.

Bingo halls in Scotland have suffered considerably from the smoking ban, but Mr Waugh hopes that with initiatives such as a smoking shelter, England will be "better prepared".
