BINGO GROUP TARGETED BY GANG
31/01/2007

The 50-strong group of pensioners and children, who play bingo at the church hall in Smallfield, Surrey, were subjected to verbal abuse.

The youths also threw stones at the windows and set a booby trap with the intention of tripping players as they exited the bingo session.

The club's bingo caller, Eileen Sowter, who has run the bingo evenings for more than 30 years, told icSurreyOnline: "We heard a lot of shouting coming from outside and then faces appeared by the window.

"Then, within minutes, there were stones being thrown. It was a bit worrying because there were so many elderly people around."

With such unwelcome disruptions to their bingo game, the players could be tempted to leave the land-based version of the game behind them and move onto online bingo instead.
