A pocketful of cash was certainly welcome - but things, they say, can only get better, and they improved pretty quickly for Martin that night.
Just half an hour later he was told that by completing his full house in just 43 numbers, the lowest number of the 500 clubs across the country playing the national game, he had won the national jackpot of £90,000.
"Things had not been going great in the past couple of months, so I wasn't exactly feeling lucky," Martin told Leeds Today.
"It was such great timing for me."
Now Martin hopes to buy himself driving lessons and his first car, something he never had the opportunity to do before.
