NINE MECCA BINGO HALLS TO CLOSE
14/02/2007Two of the Mecca Bingo Online venues to be shut down are located in London (Fulham and Islington), with the others are in Kingston-upon-Hull, Liverpool, Reading, Sheffield, Swansea, Welling and Wolverhampton.
The decision will affect the 230 current employees at the bingo halls, but Rank will attempt to find available positions for them elsewhere in the organisation.
Rank stated that the closures were "in line with the group's stated aim of improving the quality of its clubs portfolio in preparation for the introduction this year of smoking bans in England and Wales".
Nevertheless, there remain 103 Mecca bingo online halls in England, Wales and Scotland and Rank believes that the proximity of other Mecca bingo online clubs near to those that close should mean members can keep enjoying bingo.
For those that can't, or for those at odds with the smoking ban, online bingo could provide the perfect alternative.
