The smoking ban in public places, which comes into force in July, has caused some hall owners concern that interest in the game will ebb as players favour the comfort of gaming in their own homes, where they can also smoke.
When the smoking ban hit Scotland last March, year-on-year revenues for bingo clubs owned by Rank bingo fell by 15 per cent.
But the new handheld gizmos at Gala Bingo Online clubs will enable players popping out for a smoke to keep playing the game remotely, said Gala Bingo Online Coral chief executive Neil Goulden.
This technology will "modernise the whole process of bingo", he told Glasgow's Daily Record.
Gala Bingo Online Coral, which controls 175 halls countrywide, has no plans to close halls as a result of the ban.
Instead, the company is rolling out a scheme to obtain gaming licences which will cover the outside areas set aside for smokers, where they can continue playing.
