22/02/2007

According to Max Wylde, spokesperson for Rank, the operators of Mecca Bingo Online, the firm was mooting collaborating with primary care trusts to offer bingo enthusiasts, many of whom enjoying lighting up, free patches and chewing gum.

"We pride ourselves on being the best in the business so if we can't lead the way, who can?" he told the Express and Star.

The news follows Mecca Bingo Online's announcement that it would be shutting nine branches, including a club in Wolverhampton, partly as a result of the prospective ban.

Other Mecca Bingo Online branches are instigating less radical policies of accommodating the smoking ban, with branches in West Bromwich, Birmingham and Telford building shelters for smokers.

One Mecca bingo online outlet in Bilston is also changing its rules to allow players to take a quick break between games.
