After a break of six months, Ms Poynter returned to her local uk bingo hall, the Majestic in South Shields.
And the decision proved to be a wise one for the 66-year-old mum as she scooped a six-figure jackpot.
She told the publication: "Everyone's delighted for me. I'm so pleased to have won."
Ms Poynter added that she plans to buy a new bed for herself and one for her 44-year-old son Stephen, who lives with her.
He said: "She wasn't going to go to bingo, but then changed her mind - it was just fate."
A win on the national game secured a prize of £101,000 in total for the wheelchair-bound bingo fan.
The win continues a streak of good luck for players in the north-east after three five-figure jackpots were claimed in Gala bingo clubs in Cramlington and Newcastle.
