BINGO BATTLE LEADS TO CHART ATTEMPT
23/04/2007

After fighting the closure of the Mecca Bingo Online hall in Essex Road, Islington, the group were picked to appear on a BBC documentary.

Now they are expected to hit the charts with a cover version of The Who's My Generation, to be released next month.

Vocalist Alfie Carretta was interviewed outside the Mecca Bingo Online hall last week, reports the Islington Tribune.

He told the publication: "I've never sung before and nor did I know The Who's My Generation. I'm more of a Nat King Cole fan."

The group, known as The Zimmers, have a combined age of over 3,000, with Alfie contributing 90 years to the total.

However, he explained that people are living "to a ripe old age" and that, other than some arthritis in his legs, he can still "get around" without the aid of a walking stick.
