James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, made the claim after visiting the Mecca Bingo Online hall in the town's Greyhound Way.
He also took to the microphone to call out some of the numbers in the club's afternoon session.
Mr Duddridge said: "The huge social value of the uk bingo hall in Greyhound Way was obvious to me as soon as I walked in the door.
"It plays a large part in the lives of thousands of local people, both as a place for a leisure activity and as somewhere to come and socialise."
While the crowd for the afternoon session comprised about 700 players, the club has over 100,000 members.
The Mecca Bingo Online hall celebrated a £20,000 jackpot in July 2006, with the 60-year-old winner saying she intended to treat her pets with the money.
