For after 44 years of waiting, the retired nurse claimed a five-figure sum at the Riva Club in Aberdeen.

And she revealed her partner of 28 years always predicted the win would come some day.

"He has been saying for years we would hit it big one day," she told game operator National Bingo.

"When they announced how much I had won on the National [Game], I burst into tears and my blood pressure went crazy."

The £50,000 jackpot followed a prize of £200 scooped by the same lucky player earlier in the session, prompting her to claim she was "on a roll".

But the luck may have been partly with her partner, as it was he who bought their uk bingo books that brought about the big prize.

Players at the club have now hit three national jackpots in the past year, including a £50,000 prize in October 2006 and a £20,000 win in July.
