And the £50,000 jackpot constituted an unexpected start to the week, as the recipient told game operator National Bingo.
"It's spooky how it happened as we never go on a Monday," he said.
"I was completely shocked when I was told I had won and I couldn't speak for ages."
The win came after a hunch drove the man to play bingo that night, rather than wait until his usual Wednesday night session.
His wife, who accompanied him to their local Gala Bingo hall, has already compiled a list of shoes and accessories on which to spend the cash, he added.
Peterborough was lucky throughout 2006, with National Bingo listing some £360,000 in UK bingo jackpots claimed by the Gala club's members.
