WIN RAISES THE ROOF AT MECCA BINGO
20/06/2007The £100,000 national jackpot was claimed at the Southend Mecca Bingo club recently, game operator National Bingo reports.
And the prize saw bad luck turn good for both the venue and the winner.
The 29-year-old teaching assistant plays electronic bingo at the club three times a week.
But following the recent downpours, part of the roof had collapsed and only the regular manpowered form of the game was available.
"If it hadn't have been for the bad weather I never would have won," she told the operating body.
"I can't stop smiling but won't believe it entirely until I have the cheque in my hands."
The Shoeburyness resident may be Southend's first big jackpot recipient, as National Bingo suggests that there are no previous winners from the area.
