18/09/2007The £45,000 national jackpot was won by a 59-year-old Hatfield woman recently - who was at the venue on her own.
And the victory, which came at the Danestrete Mecca Bingo hall in Stevenage, improved her biggest win by more than 1,300 times.
"My previous biggest win was £100 and I had to share that with two other people," the jackpot winner told National Bingo.
While the grandmother has a family including her husband, two daughters and a grandson - with another grandchild due in the coming months - she was alone at the bingo hall when her numbers came up.
"I just started to cry when they told me - I was there on my own that evening and in total shock," she added.
National Bingo suggests that companionship is one of the four main reasons why individuals take up the game of chance.
