22/10/2007Coatbridge residents have seen their local Saint Nick rewarded with a bingo jackpot win of £20,000.
The 61-year-old - nicknamed Santa due to his long white beard - claimed the national prize, reports the game's operating body.
And National UK Bingo reveals that his wife spilt her cup of tea in shock when told he had gained the five-figure prize.
In addition to a new computer, the man is to buy a new Santa costume with his winnings, he states.
"The trousers of my old outfit have split from bending down too often to shake hands with people," he explains.
Research conducted by National Bingo in the run-up to Christmas 2006 found that bingo fans would go to some lengths to scoop a £500,000 jackpot.
The revealing survey showed that 34 per cent of people would run down Oxford Street wearing only tinsel in order to secure the prize.
