11/02/2008While all around him were cheering, the lucky winner of a £20,000 national bingo jackpot was rendered mute recently, the game's operating body explains.
The shock of the win proved too much for the man - although he did manage to thank the other members of the Mecca Bingo club in Blackpool for their kind wishes.
Duty manager Victoria Slater tells National Bingo: "The whole club cheered and clapped and we congratulated him.
"But he was so shocked all he managed to say was 'thank you'."
With that kind of effect, it might be for the best that the player did not win the entire £38,000 UK bingo jackpot up for grabs.
Instead, he had to share with a player in Scotland who reached bingo in the same number of calls.
Another recent recipient of the national UK bingo jackpot in Leicester also told National Bingo he was "shocked and surprised" to hear his name called out.
