BINGO WINNER RELUCTANT TO KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY
15/11/2005

A bingo player who won £202,000 at a hall in Kent is involved in an unseemly wrangle over an amount given to his mother.

Having split his prize with bingo partner Nigel Elkington, big winner Stephen Synnott handed £17,000 to his mother – and is now suing her for its return, claiming that it was only a loan.

Mother Hazel, widowed earlier this year, claims that nothing was mentioned about the money merely being lent – but her son claims that it is vital he receives the full amount back.

He told Kent Online: "I lent her more than £17,000 and I’m taking her to court because I want it back. I have only just started to work again as a van driver and I want the money back as I don’t have anywhere to live.

"I’m staying with my girlfriend some nights, my friends some nights but most of the time I sleep in my car. I am glad that I won the money but I wish that I had spent it differently."

No date has yet been set for the hearing, which will take place at Medway Crown Court.

A game of online bingo could yield you similarly vast rewards without too much outlay – but just make sure that you make your intentions clear regarding any winnings!
