UK BINGO WINNER WENT TO PIECES

A recent winner on the UK bingo Platinum Jackpot play-off has told how she "went to pieces" following her victory.

The player, who is due to celebrate her 65th birthday next month, explains to National Bingo that her prize was a little bigger than expected.

Even though she realised she had won the national game, she thought that would total about £28,000 for herself and the same sum for her sister.

But she had actually been playing in the Platinum Jackpot play-off - and had scooped £578,861 single-handedly.

One of the managers at the Gala Bingo Savoy club in Coventry had the pleasure of revealing the exact figure to her.

The winner tells National Bingo: "He looked at me in surprise and told me how much it actually was and then I went to pieces.

"He offered me a brandy but I don't drink - so I had a glass of water!"

Gala Bingo members in Coventry scooped more than £1.6 million from 2004 to the end of 2007, figures from the game's operating body indicate.
