HANDHELDS HEADED FOR MECCA BINGO

Land-based Mecca Bingo members could be given the chance to join in UK bingo games with a little more freedom soon, it has been revealed.

The gaming operator has entered into an agreement to provide handheld units at 21 of its venues nationwide.

Units for the latest trial are to be supplied by eQube, following on from similar trials using Planet Bingo and GameTech handsets.

Canada-based eQube already has handheld gaming devices in operation in 77 venues across Canadian provinces Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.

President and chief executive officer Gary Gardner says: "By securing a contract with Mecca, one of the premier operators of bingo halls in the UK, we are demonstrating the acceptance of our handheld."

Fellow UK bingo operator Gala Bingo also has handheld methods of joining in with its games in the form of Gala Wiz.

This can be used to participate in regular ticket games, although Gala Bingo notes that paper cards are still required for nationally linked events.
